WHY DO SOME STAIN RESISTANT FABRICS HAVE A LIQUID REPELLENCY AND FIBREGUARD DOES NOT?
How to Clean FibreGuard: Part Two
FibreGuard fabrics are the most luxurious feeling stain-resistant fabrics on the market because they lack a water-repelling finish. This was a product development choice to maintain the best possible handle of the fabric, and ensure that spills would not spread across the upholstery but instead be contained within a specific area. Adding water during cleaning also makes it easier for stains to be blotted out.
CAN A STAIN SEEP THROUGH FIBREGUARD AND ONTO THE CUSHION?
CAN A STAIN SEEP THROUGH FIBREGUARD AND ONTO THE CUSHION?
Yes, FibreGuard is stain-resistant but not moisture resistant. When large spills occur or you are cleaning the fabric, some water may seep through the weave construction. If you are worried that moisture will soak through and damage the fabric, it’s a good idea to remove the cover while spot cleaning and then put it back on afterwards. Otherwise, machine wash the cover at 30º Celsius. For a moisture-barrier or water repellency, please look to FibreGuard Pro and FibreGuard Outdoor.
WHY IS THERE A WATERMARK ON THE FABRIC EVEN THOUGH IT’S DRY?
WHY IS THERE A WATERMARK ON THE FABRIC EVEN THOUGH IT’S DRY?
Soap residue can give the appearance of a watermark and is caused by applying too much soap. Generally, it's best to apply a solution that is 20% soap to 80% water. To avoid leaving soap residue on the fabric, wash it with a bit more water and then dab off any excess, (or if you prefer to machine-wash removable fabrics that will dissolve all residual soap).
CAN FIBREGUARD FABRICS BE DRY-CLEANED AND/OR STEAM CLEANED?
CAN FIBREGUARD FABRICS BE DRY-CLEANED AND/OR STEAM CLEANED?
The website product page and fabric sample information card contain all the specific cleaning instructions. Steam cleaning should only be done by a professional upholstery cleaner, otherwise you risk damaging your sofa or chair. FibreGuard fabrics can be machine washed at 30º Celsius.
CAN FIBREGUARD FABRICS BE BLEACHED?
CAN FIBREGUARD FABRICS BE BLEACHED?
Bleach is very harmful to the environment. Many competitors will claim that their product can be bleached, but this practice isn’t necessary and doesn't align with our OEKO-TEX 100 certification. Although bleach can brighten fabric, it also has a tendency to yellow some white fabrics. Applying bleach to a coloured fabric is risky and should be avoided whenever possible.
HOW DO YOU CLEAN FIBREGUARD WHEN STAINED WITH MILDEW?
HOW DO YOU CLEAN FIBREGUARD WHEN STAINED WITH MILDEW?
Mildew is caused by moisture and humidity. Follow the washing instructions on the label to clean it regularly, ensuring that dirt does not build up and promote the growth of bacteria.
WHAT IF A STAIN HAS BEEN ON THE FABRIC FOR QUITE A WHILE?
WHAT IF A STAIN HAS BEEN ON THE FABRIC FOR QUITE A WHILE?
FibreGuard protection is for accidental spills and marks that occur in our everyday life. Removing stains as soon as possible will make the cleaning process easier. Cleaning a stain with water and following the standard cleaning process is still recommended, regardless of how long after you made the initial spill. If stains are stubborn, repeat the soap and water cleaning method until the stain is gone. Of course, you can always machine wash if the fabric is removable.
DOES THE NEW FIBREGUARD OUTDOOR RANGE HAVE AN ANTI-MICROBIAL / ANTI-BACTERIAL FINISH?
DOES THE NEW FIBREGUARD OUTDOOR RANGE HAVE AN ANTI-MICROBIAL / ANTI-BACTERIAL FINISH?
Yes. FibreGuard fabrics are treated with an anti-microbial/anti-bacterial finish, and tested to ensure that they will perform as specified in all relevant areas.
WHY DO YOU USE SOLUTION DYE POLYOLEFIN AND NOT SOLUTION DYED ACRYLIC IN THE FIBREGUARD RANGE?
WHY DO YOU USE SOLUTION DYE POLYOLEFIN AND NOT SOLUTION DYED ACRYLIC IN THE FIBREGUARD RANGE?
Although acrylic is an excellent outdoor fibre, it is restricted in terms of design. We have found that mills develop fewer options in this material, therefore it is only available in limited colours and it can be expensive. Polyolefin has fewer limitations; it handles better than acrylic and looks more like a natural fibre.
Polyolefin still provides extremely high UV protection when compared to acrylic as it is solution dyed. Compared to acrylic, polyolefin dries faster, is naturally water repellent, and uses less water during the manufacturing processes making it more eco-friendly - alongside its recyclability. Lastly, FibreGuard, our fibre protection solution, cannot impregnate into acrylic and so we have moved to polyolefin.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIBREGUARD OUTDOOR AND UV PRO?
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIBREGUARD OUTDOOR AND UV PRO?
UV Pro is woven from solution dyed acrylic which has been previously known as an ideal fabric for outdoor applications. As above, with the advances in FibreGuard’s stain resistant technology and the introduction of new anti-microbial/anti-bacterial properties to the FibreGuard range, we are now able to offer an easy-clean, fade-resistant, water-repellent outdoor fabric in a superior range of colours, textures, and designs to the market.
WHAT IS A MOISTURE BARRIER?
WHAT IS A MOISTURE BARRIER?
An impermeable moisture barrier is created by applying a micro-perforated synthetic film to the back of the fabrics in our FibreGuard Pro range.
CAN YOU ADD A TOPICAL TREATMENT TO FIBREGUARD FABRICS?
CAN YOU ADD A TOPICAL TREATMENT TO FIBREGUARD FABRICS?
No, you don't need to add topical treatments. Anything applied to fabric after production will not be permanent or environmentally safe. Aftermarket finishes wear away and can emit fumes known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are odorless and tasteless, but harmful nonetheless.
Note - Applying an after-market treatment to a FibreGuard fabric will invalidate the 5 year residential and 3 year commercial stain resistance warranty.
